How can I spot a bot?

The title sums it up. In the area I play in I've seen activity from a single person in his own gang, and thought nothing of it. However, when I went and had a look at my girlfriends city, almost 100 miles away, he had some squares up there too.
A: it's my girlfriend playing it
B: it's a coincidence
C: it's a bot
Either way it's weiiiiirrrrrrdddd.

It's a bot. They move all over the world.

Bots won't have a badge on their account. That's best way to spot one.
